Fresh cut flowers are such a simple way to brighten someone's day. Whether you are sitting at your desk, pining for the clock to strike 5, enjoying supper with your family, celebrating an achievement or milestone, or bringing support and encouragement to a friend, flowers are the perfect accessory.
The majority of "fresh cut" flowers in the United States are outsourced and imported, over 90% actually. These mainly arrive from Colombia, Ecuador and the Netherlands. Of the domestic product in the United States, approximately 75% of those are grown in California. We aim to grow a local product, with high accessibility, and reasonable prices, so that fresh cut flowers can be a common addition to your lifestyle. We believe that fresh cut, beautifully colored, flowers are more than a crop, they are a feeling. Flowers are used for happiness, congratulations, sympathy, support, respect, gratitude, love, and joy to name a few. These feelings, and the ability to share them, should not be out of reach, but rather accessible to everyone.
While we tend to the flowers, we want to be good stewards to the environment. We are cautious in the products and procedures we use, and implement several conservation efforts for our pollinator friends.
Our mission is to make the world a more joyous and colorful place, one flower, flutter, and smile at a time. We achieve that goal by producing a high quality locally grown product, and sharing both the products and experiences for flower farm life.
Laura's love for flowers sprouted with her first home. She never had much of an indoor green thumb, but outdoors, she couldn't grow enough. Complete with an engineers OCD for details and planning, her garden beds became meticulously arranged and filled to capacity. As the plants grew in size, they needed to be split for proper health. Laura sold these extra plants, simply using Facebook Marketplace. The idea for a larger scale production was planted. Lilies & daylilies were her 'bread and butter,' having the most experience with these hardy plants. Laura began to research and plant more varieties of lilies, then other bulbs, perennials, and annuals. Every nook and cranny of her small residential home was filled with blooms, and she started sharing the flowers as cut flowers.
Jason suggested that she move the flower operations to the farm where she could have the room to grow, planting as many flowers as her heart could desire, and budget could afford. Jason's background in farming and all around handy-man skills began planning the logistics of an operational flower farm. The first step was a bulldozer to clear the land, followed by creating the beds and irrigation.
The farm is currently under construction, managed by Jason, and includes two acres of newly cleared land, one acre of future you-pick opportunities, and some additional roadside attraction fun! Laura handles specific variety selection, seeding, growing planning and scheduling, marketing, advertising and sales. The 2022 season was our first farm trial, and we are happy with the success. We are adding inventory, making modifications, and preparing for larger dreams!
Fire Tower Farm has been a family property for as long as anyone can remember, rumoring to have been deeded to them from the Queen of England. The land has been used for cotton, dairy cows, beef cows and lumber.
Laura's Lilies is primarily located on a two acre section of Fire Tower Farm which was cleared for lumber in 2018. It is secluded and hidden from the road, however additional flower gardens are located along both sides of Fire Tower Road.
Laura was born and raised in the town of Burnt Hills, in upstate New York. She moved to South Carolina in 2004 to attend Clemson University, where she completed her Bachelors and Masters of Science in Civil Engineering. Laura is an engineer at the South Carolina Department of Transportation, focusing on maintenance of our roadway network, with a passion for flowers and butterflies.
Jason was born and raised in Prosperity, South Carolina, at a home which has been in the family for generations. He grew up with a love for the outdoors, being involved in farming from a young age. Jason attended Clemson University, completing his Bachelors of Science in Civil Engineering. He is currently a construction management engineer for the South Carolina Department of Transportation, with a passion for farming.
Laura & Jason met at Clemson University in a Geotechnical (Soils) Engineering course. They are both roadway engineers, dog owners, travel enthusiasts, and Clemson Tiger fans, and now flower farmers, but prefer 'floral engineers'. They have a passion for the outdoors, and can often be found exploring America's National Parks when away from the farm. They got married in June of 2023, after a flower filled engagement, then grew many of their own flowers for the wedding.
Abbie & Banjo are the official farm pups.
Abbie is a Boykin Spaniel mix and was adopted by Laura in 2012 from the Greenville Humane Society. She was just 7 months old, and already a well behaved puppy. She has grown to be am amazing dog, and has been a certified Therapy Dog since 2015. Abbie is quite the Mama's girl. If Laura is around the farm and shop, it is likely that Abbie is very close by.
Banjo is a Brittany Spaniel and was adopted by Jason in 2011, at just 8 weeks old. Banjo is spunky and full of energy, and time does not seem to slow that down at all. He may be at the farm often, but he is likely running full speed through the woods and creek, only to stop by and make sure you are still where he left you.
